Welcome to the 2022–2023 Performing Arts Season at Brookline High School!
The Performing Arts Department at Brookline High School is a thriving and lively home for creative expression open to every student. With increased stresses and challenges during the global pandemic, classes in music, drama and dance are needed now more than ever, offering students a chance to express themselves, develop socially and emotionally, find community, and to think, learn and flourish in ways different from other disciplines. Our classes add balance to a student’s academic life and help kids cultivate existing interests and to discover new ones.
Performing Arts at Brookline High consists of classes and extracurricular activities in drama, dance, stagecraft, tech, instrumental music, chorus, and digital music in introductory through advanced levels. Performing Arts gives everyone a voice and teaches communication skills as students learn to work independently and in an ensemble. In addition to learning techniques in our different disciplines, students collaborate, problem solve and develop their ability to think critically and creatively - skills that will carry over to all areas of their lives and other areas of study, while having a lot of fun in the process! Students who participate in Performing Arts at BHS develop their artistic technique and vision, and they learn that through working collaboratively, we can create a whole greater than the sum of its individual parts.
We are fortunate to live in a community that understands the value of Performing Arts and ardently supports this as an essential part of every student’s education. We have classes for students with all levels of experience, as well as for those who have never before taken a Performing Arts course. More than 700 BHS students participate in Performing Arts in any given school year and this year we will present over 25 productions. This is a reflection of the artistic energy that drives and enriches our community.
If you would like to hear more about the many ways you can support Performing Arts in Brookline, please visit our parent organization, FoPA (Friends of Performing Arts), at www.brooklinefopa.org, to learn more about opportunities. We encourage you to join us throughout the school year to celebrate the many productions of the Performing Arts Department. We’re delighted you are here with us tonight.
Enjoy the show!
